Are you struggling getting content fit on the screen of your mobile device and often scroll sideways to see all the content? Have you ever clicked on a Google search result listing on your mobile phone and discovered you are looking at a page that has too much text and has tiny links? The reason behind this is simply because the website wasn’t customized for mobile phones.
This can be a boring experience for any mobile users who come across such websites. But fortunately Google added a mobile friendly label to its mobile search results.
Worth noting to mobile users is that a page can only be “mobile friendly” if it has the following criteria as detected by Googlebot; avoids software that is common on mobile devises like flash, uses text that is readable without zooming, sizes content to the screen so that users don’t have to scroll horizontally or zoom and places links far enough apart so that the correct one can be easily tapped.
If a user wants to make sure their page is user friendly, they should look at their pages with a Mobile-Friendly test, read Google’s updated documentation on their webmasters mobile guide regarding how to create and improve their mobile site. Apart from that, a user should take a look at the Mobile usability report in Google webmaster tools, which shows main mobile usability issues across their entire site and not just one page. More so, users should look at Google’s “how-to guide for third party software” like WordPress or Joomla, with the thrust of migrating their website hosted on a CMS to use a mobile-friendly template.
